Dr. Jay Mittal's Synthesis Studio class partnered with Main Street Atmore for redevelopment plans. Atmore is home to the Poarch Band of Creek Indians, the only federally recognized tribal community in Alabama. MCP students formulated strategies to revitalize Main Street Atmore with plans to improve infrastructure, improve walkability, and strategies to attract businesses including placemaking in downtown Mainstreet. The studio process involved community input through a planned charette event. Over 70 stakeholders engaged in an interactive charette at Atmore City Hall. Students presented preliminary analyses, gathered feedback via surveys and discussions, and, at semester's end, six teams shared findings with over 100 community members at the Strand Theater, including data analysis and case studies.
