Parkside District Development 

In Spring 2014 Dr. Jay Mittal's Synthesis Studio class undertook a project on Birmingham, Al. This project guides the formation of the Parkside District, which will be a 24-hour, mixed-use district that supports multiple forms of transportation and will close the gap between the UAB Medical District and the north side of downtown. The overarching vision for the new Parkside District is to create a transit-supportive, walkable, healthy, resilient, and economically viable community. This project emphasizes these five principles as it sets forth goals and recommends strategies to achieve these goals.
